What Query Fan Out does

After a Full Report, Query Fan Out simulates how a single source question (the kind of question a user might ask before an AI starts researching) fans out into several internal follow-up queries. Those follow-ups are the paths a system might use even though the user never typed them explicitly. That helps explain a common pattern: your content may seem fine for the “headline” question, but if it does not cover the internal fan-out queries, you can still stay invisible in AI-mediated answers.

What you need first

  • A completed Full Report with a visibility analysis so there are presence queries stored with prompt_used. If that data is missing, MakeMeRank cannot build a reliable fan-out basis and will tell you the report is incomplete for this feature.
  • Run visibility analysis first if you have no eligible report; then pick that report on the Query Fan Out page.

What you get

For the selected report, MakeMeRank generates:
  • a plausible source question (user-style wording before internal research starts)
  • 3 to 6 fan-out queries as distinct internal research paths (not duplicates of the source question)
The UI explains how these relate to categories such as category, comparison, and reviews-style intents—so you see why the model might branch.

Plan availability

Query Fan Out is available on paid plans (Pro and Agency). The UI may label it as a Pro feature; Agency includes the same capability with higher limits on other quotas—see Plans & Limits. Running an analysis uses your existing Full Report scan as input. It does not decrement your Brand Insights quota (those limits apply only to Brand Insights runs).

How it fits the workflow

The dashboard onboarding suggests: Full Report → Brand Insights → Query Fan Out → Content. Query Fan Out sharpens the problem (which hidden queries matter) before you invest in content. For positioning and competitor perception, use Brand Insights; for methodology of the Full Report, see How Full Report Works.
